What is TypeRight?
TypeRight is a free Android keyboard app made by Dumb Donkey, an independent one-person studio. Its signature feature is Morphie Keys: the keys you use most (like E, T, A, O and I) are 40–60% bigger, so you make fewer typos. It also has 24 free animated skins, three key sound packs, a built-in notebook, and smart alerts that can remind you about things you type.
Is TypeRight really free?
Yes. Every feature — all 24 animated skins, all sound packs, the notebook, smart alerts — is free. There is no subscription, no paywall and no locked features. TypeRight shows a small ad strip below the keyboard; it never covers your keys and never interrupts typing.
What are Morphie Keys?
Morphie Keys is TypeRight's adaptive key sizing. The most-used letters in English get physically bigger keys, and the layout adapts to where your thumbs actually hit. Bigger targets on the keys you press most means fewer typos than a standard uniform grid.
What are animated keyboard skins?
TypeRight's 24 skins don't just change colors — they're alive. MATRIX has green code rain falling behind the keys, INFERNO has rising embers, FOREST has drifting fireflies, VOID has a starfield with shooting stars. Effects gently fade while you type so they never get in the way, then return when you pause. There are 12 dark skins and 12 light skins, all free.
Does TypeRight have typing sounds?
Yes — three optional sound packs: THOCK (deep mechanical, like a custom mech keyboard), TYPEWRITER (classic clack) and SCI-FI (futuristic video-game blips). They're off by default and have a volume slider.
Is TypeRight safe? Does it read my typing?
TypeRight's smart features run on your device. The Smart Alerts feature reads what you type locally to offer reminders (for example, typing 'dinner at 8' can trigger a reminder) — that's its purpose and you control it. TypeRight is on Google Play and subject to Google Play's app review and data-safety requirements.
What Android version do I need?
TypeRight works on Android 8.0 and newer.
How do I set TypeRight as my keyboard?
Install it from Google Play, open the app, and the setup screen walks you through it in about 30 seconds: enable TypeRight in your keyboard settings, then select it as your current keyboard.
